Spring Checklist: Maintenance, Cleaning and Visual Appeal!

The warmer temperatures are starting to hold in Spokane, and it finally feels like spring. Bring on the season of peak home buying demand… which also means higher seller activity… which also means a LAUNDRY LIST of home maintenance and improvement projects to get your space looking its best.

Whether you’re positioning your home to sell or just want to enjoy it to the fullest over the warmer months ahead, we’ve compiled your go-to Spring Home Checklist!

Routine Maintenance

The necessary evil. Putting up a new wreath or planting tulips is always preferred to inspecting air ducts, but regular home maintenance goes a long way to maintaining and enhancing your property value. Below is a list of some of the items that should be on your list every spring:

Interior:

  • Replace HVAC filters and inspect air ducts for buildup
  • Inspect and treat for pests
  • Check for moisture areas in crawl spaces and basements
  • Inspect washer/dryer units for hose cracks or lint buildup
  • Test sump pumps

Exterior:

  • Inspect gutters for buildup and damage
  • Clear foliage/debris from perimeter, especially surrounding vents and window wells
  • Inspect windows and doors for damage to caulking/seals
  • Check wooden decks and windowsills for decay/damage
  • Wash windows (interior and exterior)
  • Spray perimeter for insects and other pests
  • Pressure wash ground surfaces and outdoor furniture
  • Inspect sprinkler heads and test system
  • Seal driveway
Cleaning and organizing your garage can have both physical and mental benefits.

Cleaning Therapy

If you’re like me, it’s hard to stop once you get going. Routine maintenance inevitably leads to therapeutic cleaning of every space in my home. Again, not as fun as some of the aesthetic items, but can do a world of good for your chi! Some ideas…

  • Clean out fridge and freezer
  • Deep clean garbage and recycling bins
  • Declutter kitchen and bathroom cabinets
  • Clean out your closet and put off-season items in storage
  • Spot clean carpets and upholstery
  • Vacuum under furniture
  • Wash throw rugs
  • Put extra blankets in storage
  • Shake out doormats
  • DUST – it’s amazing what you don’t see until the sun comes out
Enhance your indoor and outdoor space with fresh flowers and greenery or pops of color

The Fun Stuff

Once your space is clean and organized, and you’ve taken care of any repair or replacement needs, it’s time to focus on visual appeal. There are so many ways to spruce up the interior and exterior of your home, but below are a few of our favorites!

  • Add fresh flower arrangements or greenery
  • Hang an accent wreath
  • Replace candles and other scents
  • Add pops of color with pillows, throws or art
  • Dress your windows
  • Rearrange furniture
  • Maximize natural light

Best of luck in your Spring Maintenance/Cleaning/Enhancing adventures and enjoy the beautiful weather ahead!
